The Right Place was a drop-in peer counseling, information and referral center on the Reno campus. A nonprofit organization, the concept originated during an alcohol and drug abuse meeting in 1976, called in response to two students alcohol-related deaths. Subsequent to that meeting, Dr. Margaret Rockenbeck, a counselor in the university's Counseling and Testing Center, and Tim Wilson, an undergraduate in psychology, began to organize the drop-in center.
